PURPOSE: The Tooling Manager will manage the ongoing maintenance, development, and optimization of injection molding tooling to ensure optimal asset utilization for and support activities to ensure sustained, optimal tool performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise employees and activities in Tool Room to support 24/7 production facility

  • Develop preventative maintenance programs

  • Oversee conversions, repairs, preventive maintenance and inspection of tooling

  • Set priorities for mold repairs

  • Review of new mold development, tooling vendor selection, and negotiate tooling cost

  • Lead and support process improvement activities to improve flow, set up reduction, reliability, and cavitation

  • Manage expenses for Tool shop and make recommendations for capital needs

  • Evaluate down-time and efficiency reports

  • Establish good working relationships and display strong business aptitude to support plant production and performance goals

  • Keep Tool shop personnel informed of pertinent activities and information

  • Work with vendors on development of injection tools, fixtures, and molds

  • Manage cost, evaluate suppliers, and meet deadlines

  • Review new mold construction and design changes to existing tooling

  • Drive standardization in tooling design

  • Enforce all company policies, Safety Rules, ISO, Housekeeping, GMP’s, etc.

  • Conduct new hire training and continuous training to improve efficiencies

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.) or Journeyman Machinist/Tool Maker

  • 7+ years of demonstrated success in similar role

  • Specific knowledge, experience, and competencies in plastic injection mold tooling for presses ranging from 100-1,000 tons

  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and direct employees

  • Must have excellent industry knowledge

  • Strong organizational and communication skills with proven ability to multi-task

  • Must have excellent problem solving ability and good judgment

  • Must have a positive attitude and be a team player

  • Previous experience in Plastic Injection Molding

  • 7-10 years’ experience in similar role
