PURPOSE:

The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for the Berry Quality System for the Bowling Green, Ky facility. The main objectives are to improve the plant’s Quality processes to ensure that product Quality is right the first time, and that the product Quality is second to none; also, to ensure that the plant meets or exceeds all Quality systems requirements and audits, this would include SQF, ISO 9001, ISO 15378, GMP, Customer audits, Supplier audits etc. Also, build and maintain strong relationships with our customers both internal and external, ensure that our products are competitive in the marketplace in order to support business growth. Utilize continuous improvement tools and processes to drive out cost/waste from the product stream. Train and develop plant and direct reports in the modern curriculum of requirements and employee development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meet and maintain all divisional Quality Management System objectives, including year over year defect/credit reduction, and Quality Management System implementation targets.

  • Direct the activities, duties, and projects of the QC and Lab Technicians to assure compliance to customer specifications.

  • Serve as the plant’s contact for customer complaints and customer compliance audits. Maintain reporting systems for internal and external complaints.

  • With regards to Quality, execute and manage Six Sigma, Process Improvement, and Lean projects as needed.

  • Communicate plant quality expectations and monitor performance relative to the objectives in a timely and effective manner.

  • Actively solicit input from all employees to aid in successfully accomplishing the above listed actions.

  • Responsible for compliance with all facility product safety (GMP’s)/Sanitation policies and procedures. Must continually work to promote orderliness and cleanliness of their work area in support of companywide product stewardship standards. Act as the leader of the facilities Safe Quality Food (Food Safety) programs.

  • Must be supportive of Berry’s Mission, Vision and Core Values (Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships, and Teamwork.)

  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, develop, implement, and document Quality Management System for maintenance and control of products and processes.

  • Effective technical writing skills to manage and improve the plant document system to include updates or the creation of new documents with regards to SOPs, WIs, Test methods, Complaint responses, training etc.

  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor Degree in Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.

  • Eight or more years of experience in Quality Management within a manufacturing environment, is preferred

  • Experience working in a Pharmaceutical, Food/Beverage, Healthcare or equivalent manufacturing environment.

  • Must be a certified Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt or be willing to attain certification as part of the selection for this position.

  • Experience utilizing continuous improvement tools in a Lean Manufacturing environment

  • Experience and utilization in any of the following Quality systems: ISO 9001, ISO 15378, ISO22000, SQF practitioner , HACCP, GMP

  • Regulatory experience a plus

  • Auditing experience

  • Experience with validation (IQ,OQ,PQ) etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • High level of responsibility <25-50% Travel required
