Responsibilities

PURPOSE FOR TOOLING TECHNICIAN LEVEL 1: To clean and maintain molds for production runs. Assist journeymen on the production floor.

PURPOSE FOR TOOLING TECHNICIAN LEVEL 2: To rebuild and repair production equipment, rebuild tooling, to improve their running condition, along with working on molds and dies that are running in machines in the production area.

Authorities: Maintain and enforce all company safety, environmental and department of health requirements.

WILL BE HIRING FOR LEVEL 1 AND LEVEL 2 TECHNICIANS

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR TOOLING TECHNICIAN LEVEL 1:

  1. Clean and maintain molds.

  2. Assist in mold changes.

  3. Perform minor troubleshooting of molds and auxiliary equipment.

  4. Maintain mold storage areas and prepare molds for shipment.

  5. Maintain records of PM in the work order system.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR TOOLING TECHNICIAN LEVEL 2:

  1. Repair and maintenance production machinery including molds, dies and forming tools.

  2. Make changes on existing components in a timely manner and correct to an engineered drawing.

  3. Ability to install production equipment in the machines.

  4. Assist the Group Leaders and Lead persons in planning work in the shop.

  5. Assist the Group Leaders and Lead persons in sending work to outside vendors.

  6. Keep the Shop area in a clean and orderly manner.

  7. Assist other departments whereyourskills are needed.

  8. Keep the machines running as efficiently as possiblewhile they are running in production

  9. Perform mold cleaning with repairs that are needed.

  10. Record in the JDE PEM for PM’s and or Lotus Notes work order system any maintenance that is completed on every mold.

  11. Inform the Scheduling Department when there is a mold problem that is going to be down for any length of time.

  12. Carry out any other tasks assigned by the Group Leaders and Technical Manager.

  13. Analyze specifications, fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges.

  14. Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators. Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.

  15. Simple setups on machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.

Operate metal or plastic forming equipment. Operate grinding equipment.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS FOR TOOLING TECHNICIAN LEVEL 1:

  1. High School diploma / GED equivalent.

  2. Ability to lift 75 pounds a minimum of 10 times per day.

  3. Able to use both hands for effective manipulation of tools/parts.

  4. Stereoptic vision of 20/40 or better and peripheral vision of 70 degrees or greater and ability to read 10-12 point font at a distance of 12-18 inches.

  5. Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

  6. Must be able to complete a basic mechanical skills test.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR TOOLING TECHNICIAN LEVEL 2:

  1. High school education / GED equivalent.

  2. Must be willing to complete an apprenticeship program.

  3. Ability to lift 75 pounds a minimum of 10 times per day and lift 50-75 lbs. over shoulder height occasionally.

  4. Ability to occasionally climb on and off a forklift safely and without assistance.

  5. Ability to safely operate a forklift in high traffic, low clearance areas while not posing a safety risk to others. Must not be at risk of sudden alterations in consciousness.

  6. Hearing sufficient to recognize and respond to shouted warnings, alarms and horns on forklifts.

  7. Able to occasionally climb ladders safely and without assistance. Able to work at heights. (With or without fall protection). Must not be at risk of sudden alterations in consciousness.

  8. Verbal communication adequate to use a radio and or paging system to contact other co-workers in other areas of the complex.

  9. Able to use both hands for effective manipulation of tools/parts.

  10. Able to work overhead or in awkward positions on a frequent basis.

  11. Ability to push/pull loads of approx. 75 lbs. at a minimum of 10 times per day/shift.

  12. Stereoptic vision of 20/40 or better and peripheral vision of 70 degrees or greater and ability to read 10-12 point font at a distance of 12-18 inches. Able to complete an "Ishihara" color vision test.

  13. Able to stand/walk for up to 12-hour shift.

  14. Must be able to complete a basic mechanical skills test.
