POSITION SUMMARY

The Production/Converting Manager has managerial and operational duties. The position is accountable for the manufacturing of products within the converting department that meet customer and internal qualifications with regard to quality, timelines and good manufacturing practices, as well as adherence to all company rules and regulations.

As a member of the Plant Management Team, the Converting Manager provides input and consistently demonstrates leadership to support the Plant’s operating plans/strategies and the company’s business plan.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Active promoter of EHS and all department 5S programs, ensuring that all tasks are performed in a safe manner and in compliance with all safety and environmental policies and procedures.

  • Strictly adheres to and enforce ALL safety rules and regulations. Actively participates on the GDC Near miss and Observations program as well as the bi-weekly 5S squad events leading a functional group with a visible hands-on shopfloor leadership.

  • Proactively interacts with Mixing / Coating, Quality, frontline leaders, maintenance and production planning to provide direction and tactical leadership maximizing the operation of the converting lines.

  • Coordinates with Planning/Scheduling as well as other functional departments to monitor and adjust the schedule of the slitting and converting machinery to ensure timely service to customers. Proactively prepares corrective actions and plans to address delays in deliveries or slitting converting back log.

  • Ensures compliance to asset SOP's and work instructions to yield products that meet quality and cost standards at the highest departmental productivity levels.Responsible for the department’s compliance with Berry’s ISO 9000 certification requirements

  • Set targets and goals for operating units to achieve budgeted MEEF and EFF levels; promotes visual management practices by graphically maintaining key performing indicators by slitting unit as well as departmental; actively promotes continuous improvement programs to maximize asset productivity.

  • Maintains adequate certified department staffing based on order volume. Ensure the maximum department staffing is properly organized, trained, motivated and supervised so that people understand the company’s standards and work towards goals and targets.

  • Participates in the recruitment, interview and selection of de candidates for employment and manage department onboarding process; Monitor and manage employee performance and development, conduct personnel evaluations and performance disciplinary action as needed.

  • Identifies o Provide input for improvements and/or capital investments to maintain quality productivity levels. Coordinates with the Maintenance Department the schedule for preventive maintenance for the slitting / converting units.

  • Perform a variety of other tasks, of equal or lesser complexity, as needed.

EXPERIENCE, SKILL, & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The individual should have the ability to read and write in English.

  • The individual should be a minimum high school graduate. Associate degree in Applied Science or technical field is preferred.

  • Experience and working knowledge of MS Office and computer applications.

  • 7years minimum experience in slitting and converting process, maintenance or operations role in a manufacturing environment (preferably coating, tapes and related industries).

  • Enclosed office space with frequent exposure to production floor; hearing protection may be required at times.

  • Equal amounts of time spent sitting, standing, and walking.

  • Effective communication skills, written and oral, including presentation skills, technical and program writing, and the ability to communicate will all levels of management and employees.

  • Ability to apply practical criteria to decision alternatives in order to choose course of action.

  • General understanding Basic knowledge of OSHA and EPA laws, standards and regulations governing manufacturing sites (29 CFR 1910).

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing industry (tapes, paper or films preferred).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Uses data and proven methods to analyze, troubleshoot, and develop solutions to problems.

Compensation: $90,000 to $120,000 DOE
